03 Jun Artist, Gustavo Duenas, will be on display at Hemming Plaza Jewelers for the June Art Walk
Stop by Hemming Plaza Jewelers this Wednesday, June 4, 2014, during the downtown Art Walk and check out the amazing paintings by Gustavo Duenas.
Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 1967, Gustavo Duenas has always been looking far beyond the boundaries of his country’s contemporary art. He’s been trying all the existing schools of art, from expressionism to cubism, from classicism to dadaism. The “ism” have become colors that he could mix with infinite results to show always a new side of his so strangely populated inner universe.
His first art exhibition was in 1991 (though he was always painting almost everything since his early nine years old )in the “Barrio las Peñas”- an important historic site in his natal city Guayaquil, widely known as the center for art exhibitions among the local artists. But it was in 1994 that his art was, among other local contemporary artists, to be part o the re-opening of the recently remodeled Guayaquil’s Municipal Museum, in the “Salon de Julio”. It is in this important art exhibit that his surrealist-neo-dadaist world is exposed for the very first time.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the italian renaissance, but I’m a dadaist/cubist by conviction. The world of the psychic automatism has always lead my work. It starts on my head, then they become lines and shadows in paper, and finally I take my time to infuse all those ideas and concepts into acrylics and watercolors. Sometimes, at the end they will look different to my sketch, I think that is because the only one I’m faithful with is to my wife.”
