About the artist:
Steve was born in Asheville, North Carolina, but has lived most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida.  Steve has had an interest in art all of his life, which he began expanding upon more extensively approximately 15 years ago by taking classes at Florida State College at Jacksonville and with various private teachers, including Tony Wood, who is known in the local art community.  Additionally, he has studied figure drawing for the past 12 years.  Previously, Steve himself taught art to children in elementary through high school at The Foundation Academy.

Steve enjoys painting with oils and pastels, and drawing with pencil, ink, charcoal, and conte, painting and drawing a wide range of subjects.  He does commissioned portraits, as well as renderings of pets.  Since Steve and his wife, Carol, live aboard their sailboat and he has a love of the sea, he many times draws and paints sailboats and coastal scenes.

Steve is a member of The Art Center Cooperative and has a studio space located at 229 North Hogan, next to Hemming Plaza Jewelers.  The studio is open to the public each month for Art Walk, as well as for other art events.  Steve also has a piece on display at TAC’s Adams Street location.  He has participated in Jacksonville’s downtown Art Walk for the past 3 years, and has been the featured artist at Chamblin’s Book Mine, and is this month’s featured artist at Hemming Plaza Jewelers.  He has also participated in the Beaches Art Walk.
